Established in 1955
Hames Hall is located in the heart of South Georgia. Construction on the manor began in 1950 by the only doctor in the area. Dr. Curtis Hames was a world-famous heart doctor and left a legacy with Claxton, GA and the Evans County community. In addition to being a doctor, his passions also included photography and architecture.
While on vacation in Natchez, Mississippi, he stayed at the D’Everueux House, a plantation-turned-bed-and-breakfast. He loved the house so much, he built an exact replica in his hometown. Dr. Hames and his family lived in the mansion until the early 2000s.
Hames Hall was bought and sold several times until we purchased it in the summer of 2017. We are so thrilled to keep the rich history of this significant landmark in the community and share it with the public. There is an iron plaque that was mounted on the gates in 1955 that proudly reads “Hames Hall.”
When we inquired Dr. Hames’ son, also Dr. Hames, about keeping the name for the venue he was more than gracious. He gave us the original hand-painted portrait of his mother, Betty Hames, to place above the banquet hall fireplace where it hung previously for 48 years. She is back home. Hames Hall has an unmatched heritage and elegant charm you want to surround your wedding day. When can we schedule your tour?
We can’t wait to see you.
